'Less Is More' Says Royal Oak Stylist About Shampooing Hair In Winter
DETROIT (WWJ) - Winter can wreak havoc on your hair. But there are some things you can do to keep your tresses in great shape.
Winter weather can lead to hair that's dull, brittle and full of static. Sun from the ski slopes can be as drying and damaging as sun from a day basking at the beach. During the winter season we are also exposed to the drying effects of indoor heat.
The main reason is a loss of moisture reports WWJ Health Reporter Dr. Deanna Lites.
But with a little tender loving care you can have luxurious locks.
For example, don't wash your hair every day says Alex Lekocaj from Alex Emilio salon in Royal Oak.
"Less is more. Shampoo every second, every third day. Let the moisture stay in the hair," says the stylist.
Lekocaj says go for a moisturizing shampoo in the winter and consider a leave in conditioning cream that you can put on dry hair to help perk up dull locks.
To get rid of any static in your hair. Reach for a dryer sheet.
"We'll grab the dry hair in small sections and basically rub the dryer sheet and it will reduce static electricity and weight the hair down a little bit," he says.
