Google To Stop Selling Initial Version Of Glass, Developing New Technologies

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Google will be ending sales of the Glass Monday, and will enter into a new phase of development of the wearable technology, according to the company's Google Plus page.
The Glass Explorer Program, which had first users of the "smart" glasses which connects users to Internet and a number of apps, was utilized by a number of initial users including doctors, fire fighters and mountain climbers.
"Glass was in its infancy, and you took those very first steps and taught us how to walk," the company stated in the post. "Well, we still have some work to do, but now we're ready to put on our big kid shoes and learn how to run."
Google stated that Google Glass is moving from Google[x] and becoming its own project within the company. This will lead to the closure of the Explorer Program to work on the next generation of Glass.
The company stated that while sales of the Glass Explorer Edition end Jan. 19, Google will release "future versions of Glass when they're ready."
Leading this new effort will be Tony Fadell, a former Apple executive, TechCrunch reports. The report added that current Glass owners will be able to use wearable technology, but will not receive any new software updates.
