Report: Teryl Austin Withdraws From Consideration For Denver Job

CBS DETROIT - Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin has withdrawn his candidacy for the head coaching vacancy of the Denver Broncos, ESPN's Josina Anderson reported Friday.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the day that Austin's interview, planned for Friday, had been called off and had yet to be rescheduled.
Austin has already interviewed with the Buffalo Bills, the San Francisco 49ers, the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons. He landed a second interview with the Falcons; that meeting took place earlier this week. No decision from Atlanta emerged after that interview, and the team is reportedly still interested in Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, another finalist for the job.
In his first season as an NFL coordinator, Austin revamped the Detroit defense from a middle-of-the-pack unit to the second-best in the league. Only the Seahawks, the defending Super Bowl champions who could repeat this season, have a better defense.
Three of the four teams with which Austin has interviewed have already made their selections; the Bills hired Rex Ryan, the 49ers hired Jim Tomsula, and the Bears are reportedly set to hire John Fox.
It looks as though Austin, who has garnered plenty of interest, could remain with the Lions for at least one more season after all.
