CBS DETROIT - Starting pitcher David Price and the Detroit Tigers agreed to a one-year, $19.75 million deal Friday, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.com.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports wrote that $19.75 million was a new record for a one-year deal made to avoid arbitration. Price made $14 million in 2014.

Price, expected to be the ace of the Detroit rotation in 2015, came to the Tigers in a trade deadline deal last season and recorded an ERA of 3.59 in 11 starts for Detroit. He won the Cy Young in 2012, has a career ERA of 3.21 and becomes a free agent following the 2015 season.

The Tigers also avoided arbitration with starting pitcher Alfredo Simon, who signed for one year and $5.55 million, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com.

The team announced Friday afternoon that it had settled with outfielder J.D. Martinez as well.
