State Police Remind Motorists To Move Over After Patrol Car Hit Along I-75

WARREN (WWJ) - A Michigan State Police trooper is recovering after his patrol car was hit along I-75 in Detroit.

The trooper was handling an accident on the shoulder of the freeway near Warren Wednesday night when another driver lost control of her 2008 Ford Taurus and hit the car, according to police.

The trooper was checked out at a clinic, treated for back and neck pain and released.  The driver who struck the MSP vehicle — a 44-year-old Detroit woman — was not injured, police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

State police say first responders are being hit at an alarming rate over the last two months in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

Under Michigan law, drivers who don't move over for police and other emergency crews on the highway could be fined$7,500 and face up to 15 years in prison if the violation causes injury or death to a police officer, firefighter or other emergency response personnel.
