AT&T Upgrades Detroit, Romulus Cell Sites

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - AT&T announced Tuesday that it has upgraded two mobile Internet cell sites in Detroit and Romulus for residents and businesses.

The upgrades add new layers of frequency, also known as "carriers" according to AT&T, in Detroit near Campus Martius at Woodward Avenue, north of Michigan Avenue and in Romulus in the areas of Shook and Goddard roads.

"AT&T's local investment proves once again that they are committed to the people of Detroit," said state Sen. Virgil Smith (D-Detroit), in a release. "Detroit will be better connected than ever before, thanks to the sorts of innovations and expanded services being announced today and that's great news for families and businesses alike."

AT&T also activated two new 4G LTE cell sites in Detroit, which the company states will improve service near Greenfield Road and West Chicago Avenue and near Conner Avenue and East McNichols Road.

The upgrades are part of the company's ongoing 4G LTE rollout, which first launched in metro Detroit in Sept. 2012.

"Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience, and they'll be able to download, upload, stream and game faster than ever before on our 4G LTE network," said Jim Murray, president, AT&T Michigan, in a release. "As part of the Wayne County community, we're always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is another way we're accomplishing that."
