Westland Police Warn About Suspicious Gray Mini-Van, Man Targeting Children

WESTLAND (WWJ) - Authorities in Westland are advising the community to be on the lookout for a man driving a gray mini-van, who might be targeting children at an apartment complex.

Two "stranger danger" incidents have been reported this week at the Landings Apartment complex off Central City Parkway between Warren and Ford roads, and police believe there's a connection.

The first incident happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday when a 15-year-old boy was approached by the vehicle, driven a black man in his late 20's or early 30's. The boy told police the man asked him sexually explicit questions before he walked away from the vehicle. The man then drove away without any further incident.

The boy described the man as having a medium, muscular build with a beard and dark circles under his eyes. At the time, he was wearing a dark skull-cap and grey hooded sweatshirt. He also described the vehicle as a gray mini-van, possibly a Chrysler Town and Country.

The second incident occurred around the same time on Thursday. Police received a call from a woman who was at the apartment complex, waiting for her children to get off of the school bus. The woman told police as she was waiting for her children, she observed a suspicious grey mini-van circling the area of the school bus stop. The caller was not able to get a description of the driver in this incident.

Anyone who might have information on either incident or the suspect is urged to contact police at 734-722-9600.
