Report: Lions Favorites To Sign Suh

CBS DETROIT – The Detroit Lions have always said they plan to keep perennial All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in the fold, and so far the team is on track to do exactly that, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Suh is poised to become the most highly paid defensive player in the game, but, according to Mortensen, the Lions believe they can manage to pay Suh, star wide receiver Calvin Johnson and quarterback Matthew Stafford and still have enough money left over to fill out the rest of the roster and field a competitive team.

ESPN reports that if the Lions had to choose – which they do not believe they need to do – they would favor keeping Suh over keeping Johnson.

While Detroit is the favorite to sign Suh right now, ESPN reports that status could change if Suh and the Lions still do not have a deal when free agency hits and other teams can start bidding for his services.

Representatives of free agents can begin discussions with other clubs March 7, and contracts can be executed when 2014 contracts expire on March 10.

On WDIV in Detroit, team president Tom Lewand said a deal with Suh could be done in the next few weeks.
