Michigan's Premier Season-Opening Prep Football Event Announces 2015 Matchups

DETROIT – The Detroit Sports Commission announced today the matchups for the 2015 Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic presented by Tim Hortons Cafe and Bake Shop. The Prep Kickoff Classic will celebrate its 11-year anniversary with 14 schools from Southeast Michigan playing seven games Aug. 27-29 at Wayne State University.

"The Detroit Sports Commission is proud to welcome another great line-up of games to Midtown Detroit," said Dave Beachnau, DSC executive director and Prep Kickoff Classic founder. "We look forward to providing a platform for the teams, bands, cheerleaders and fans to showcase themselves and create lifelong memories along the way."

The Prep Kickoff Classic will feature three defending state champions in two of its three games on Saturday, Aug. 29. Warren De La Salle, coming off its first title in school history, will meet Detroit King at 2 p.m., while defending state champions Detroit Loyola (Division 7) and Orchard Lake St. Mary's (Division 3) will play for the first time ever in the game prior at 11 a.m. In the nightcap, Detroit Cass Tech will take on Southfield at 5 p.m. in a rematch of their 2013 Prep Kickoff Classic game.

Another first-time matchup will pit Canton against Dearborn Fordson on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m., while Lake Orion will battle Chippewa Valley on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.

The Downriver League brings two of its matchups to Midtown. Southgate Anderson and Trenton will open the event on Thursday at 4 p.m. Both schools will each be making their third appearance in the event. On Friday, Allen Park, boasting a 4-0 record in the Prep Kickoff Classic, takes on newcomer Taylor Kennedy, at 4 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 29

Detroit King vs. Warren De La Salle, 2 p.m.
Detroit Cass Tech vs. Southfield, 5 p.m.

Since its inception in 2005, the Prep Kickoff Classic has hosted more than 70 teams from Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. In addition, the award-winning event has featured some of the Midwest's top student-athletes. Seventy-three players that participated in last year's event signed National Letters of Intent in 2015 with NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA schools on National Signing Day.
