Rangers Slugger Fielder 'Full Speed Ahead' For Spring

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers say slugger Prince Fielder is "full speed ahead" for spring training after neck surgery last summer.

General manager Jon Daniels said Fielder got "a green light" during an examination Monday with Dr. Drew Dossett, who performed the cervical fusion of two disks in Fielder's neck.

Fielder was limited to 42 games in his debut season with the Rangers. His last was May 16, about two weeks before surgery.

Before the Rangers acquired Fielder in a trade from the Detroit Tigers last offseason, he had a majors-best streak of 547 consecutive games played. He had missed only one of 810 possible games since the start of 2009.

Fielder, who is signed through 2020, said last month at the team's awards dinner that he was 100 percent.
