Meteorologist Predicts 'Real Wild Winter Weather' Yet To Come This Season In Michigan

DETROIT (WWJ) - While metro Detroit settles into a deep freeze, the Boston area is getting pounded by more than 6 feet of snow.

Mark Torregrossa, Chief Meteorologist at MLive and farmerweather.com, said this severe weather is all part of the same system which very well could track back to Michigan by the end of the month.

"I think Michigan better be prepared for some very interesting weather," he told WWJ Newsradio 950's Brian Larsen.

Torregrossa sees the potential for a lot more snow at the end of February into March — with the potential for a massive snow accumulation.

"If that cold pocket backs up to the west a little bit into central Canada, drops down into the central plains — instead of over Michigan — it's gonna force that storm track back westward," Torregrossa said. "And if we get into that late February or March, when our storms are typically very strong, we could have some real wild winter weather around here."

"I'm not convinced that we haven't seen our heaviest snowstorm so far this season already," he added.

Torregorssa said he doesn't expect the typically springlike weather until well into April.

Meantime, a Wind Chill Advisory, remains in effect until 11 a.m. Friday for Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

Metro Detroiters could also see a couple more inches of snow on Friday, forecasters say, before the bitter cold settles in with some of the lowest temperatures we've seen this winter. Lows around 10 below, wind chills of 15 to 24 below zero are expected through Friday morning.
