Google Offers 2GB To Complete Security Upgrade

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Google is giving users of its Drive an extra 2GB of storage if they complete a security checkup by the end of the day Tuesday.

The two-minute checkup takes users through the sign-in process and check two-step sign-in process, information shared with apps and personal information.

"While everything stored in Drive is always encrypted in transit and at rest in Google's custom-built data centers, this checkup ensures you're making the most of the 24/7 protection you already get from Google," Alex Vogenthaler, Group Product Manager, Google Drive, wrote in a blog post.

Google stated that it recommended users visit the checkup "every so often" or anytime there is an account change including when users get a new phone or replace a laptop.

The checkup allows users to check to see if their account recovery information is current; review recent sign-in activity and review and remove apps and devices that don't need access to their account.

Once the checkup is complete, users will see three green check boxes that confirms users are eligible for the free storage and they have taken steps to enhance their online safety.

Storage will be granted automatically to everyone around 28 Feb. 28, and users will receive an email when their adjustment is complete.
