Child Leaves Note At Restaurant Saying He Needs Help; Left With 2 Women, 2 Children

BERKLEY (WWJ) -- In what is a bizarre incident, a child left a note indicating he needed help at Alex's Restaurant on 12 Mile Road in Berkley around 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

The boy, who appeared to be about 8 or 9-years-old, was with two women and two other children. The group was seen on security video when they were paying their bill.

Bob North, Deputy Chief of the Public Safety Department in Berkley, said that officials have to take the threat as real, until they know otherwise.

"He wrote a note -- left a note behind -- indicating what we consider to be suspicious in nature, indicating that he may be in need of assistance," North said. "[He] left the note on the chair at the restaurant, Alex's staff saw it when they were cleaning up and notified us right away."

North said that officials need help from the public.

"We're not indicating that there is foul play, but we just need some questions answered," North said. "We need to identify these people and they may even see the news story and reach out to us to get it cleared up."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Berkley Public Safety Department at 248-541-9000.
