Water Treatment Plant Contends With Water Main Break Of Their Own

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 16 inch water main break was the result of the weather according to Water Department Spokeswoman Kirsty Gardner.

The water came in to an area inside a storage area of the building of the West Jefferson Treatment Plant on Zug Island.

"We have a pump that actually had a water main break underneath, so what we have is water in the building right now, it looks like we were able to stop it last night in terms of the water coming in, so what we are doing now is pumping it out," said Gardner.

There were no injuries, no major damage, and no interruption of service for residents. Just a housekeeping headache for the department which should take a few days to clean up.

The discovery of the water main break happened Sunday.
