Black History Month: Successful Detroit 6th Grader Has Unending Ambition

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences 6th grader Asia Newson appeared on national TV to tout the company she started, "Super Business Girl," when she was only 5 years old.

"It was very fun to be on 'Ellen,' because first she gave me $10,000 and she gave me a MacBook Pro," Asia told WWJ's Vickie Thomas. "So she gave me a lot of things I needed to expand my business."

In addition to earning straight A's, Asia also enjoys singing in her school's successful choir.

"I'm an inspiration to people in my community, I'm the CEO of my business, I'm part-owner of a beverage company and I put all of those together, because all of those things are what I like to do, and it's what I do best."

At age 11, she already has her future mapped out.

"First I'm gonna be a lawyer, then I'm gonna be mayor of Detroit, then I'm gonna be President of the United States," Asia said.

Having achieved so much success so early, how does she stay grounded?

"Plus, I'm very humble — even though it's not humble to say you're humble — but I'm humble."
