Brad Ausmus On Plans For His Twitter: 'Maybe Get In A Twitter Feud With Taylor Swift'

LAKELAND, FLA. - Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus joined the public Twitter world Wednesday, posting about the message he delivered to the team Tuesday, the first day of full squad workouts at spring training.

Ausmus had been on Twitter before with a private account, mainly to keep tabs on his children. He thought about a public account in the offseason. Asked why join the social medium now, Ausmus smiled.

"21st century," the manager said. "I've got to move on. Can't get stuck in the stone age."

Ausmus, who by Wednesday morning already had more than 4,200 followers and almost 1,000 retweets of his inaugural tweet, does not anticipate posting frequently.

"Probably not overly active," Ausmus said. "Standard Twitter - I'll probably have a rant, Twitter rant sometime, maybe get in a Twitter feud with Taylor Swift, break the Internet eventually, I'm sure.

"I'll use it to refute articles written by media members," Ausmus added with a grin.

Ausmus ran the idea of getting a public Twitter account by vice president of communications Ron Colangelo, who asked Ausmus to let him sleep on it. Evidently, approval was granted.

The manager did not speak on how he feels about social media in general.

"Quite frankly, it doesn't matter what I think," Ausmus said. "It's here to stay. It's not going anywhere. If I went into the clubhouse and asked how many guys have a Twitter account, I would say it would be nearly 100 percent would put their hands in the air saying they did. It's part of the world we live in."
