Mother Shot As Locks Are Being Changed To Avoid Ex-Boyfriend

YPSILANTI TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a man shot and critically injured his ex-girlfriend while the mother of four was having her locks changed to keep him out.

The incident happened around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Packard Road in Ypsilanti Township.

Washtenaw County Sheriff's spokesman Derrick Jackson said a maintenance man was changing the locks when the ex-boyfriend showed up with a gun entered and shot the 35-year-old woman, The Ann Arbor News reported.

The maintenance man ran to safety and called 911. Deputies responded to the scene and quickly located the suspect.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatments of wounds to the chest, chin and knee. She was last reported in critical condition.

No one else was injured. Police said the woman's 4-, 5-, 9- and 10-year-old children were away from home at the time.

The suspect is in jail awaiting charges. His name has not yet been released.
