Southwest Adds Non-Stop Detroit To Dallas Love Field Flight

By Edward Cardenas

ROMULUS (CBS Detroit) - Southwest Airlines announced Thursday that it is adding a non-stop flight this summer between Detroit Metropolitan Airport and Dallas Love Field.

The new flight marks the first non-stop between Metro Airport and Love Field, and was made possible October 2014 expiration of the Wright Amendment  restrictions on long-haul flying at Love Field, according to airline officials.

"Southwest is thrilled to offer customers more Dallas flights and nonstop service to 50 destinations," said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer, in a release. "These new travel options and Southwest's low-fare competition will provide enormous benefits to consumers and businesses in Dallas and all the cities we will serve."

The addition of the Love Field route, Southwest will offer 20 nonstop departures a day to eight cities including Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington, Chicago (Midway), Denver, Las Vegas, Nashville, Phoenix and St. Louis.

The non-stop flights between Detroit and Dallas begin Aug. 9. The daily flights to Love Field depart at 7:45 a.m. and arrive at 9:40 a.m. Flights from Dallas depart at 5:20 p.m. and arrive at 8:55 p.m. at Metro.

Southwest has 117 employees at Metro Airport.
