10 Kids Hospitalized After 2 Full School Buses Collide In Pittsfield Township

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - There were no critical injuries, but a number of Saline Middle School students were hospitalized Friday following an accident involving two full school buses carrying 100 about kids back from a field trip.

The Pittsfield Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulance were on the scene of the crash just before 12:20 p.m. Friday at Morgan Road East near Carpenter in Pittsfield Township, around 35 minutes southwest of Detroit.

Joyce Williams, with Huron Valley Ambulance said they sent seven paramedic ambulances staffed to evaluate all students involved in the crash.

Pittsfield Township Fire Chief Sean Gleason said a total of 22 children were treated for "bumps and bruises and bloody noses."

After everyone was checked out, multiple children were hospitalized for further treatment. She said all of them are expected to be OK.

"We took 10 students in stable condition to the University of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital. There were no serious or critical injuries," Williams said. "All of the students were in stable condition."

As of 5 p.m., there was no updated information about the 10 students' conditions.

Gleason said the buses were among several returning to the school after a field trip to see the movie "Selma."

Authorities said one bus rear-ended the other. The crash remains under investigation.
