Michigan Musician Lands Opening Theme Music For CBS Cop Drama 'Battle Creek'

(CBS Detroit) - It's been said that a good TV theme should get your attention while you're in the kitchen. The music picked for CBS's new drama "Battle Creek" will simultaneously grab you by the collar and get your toes tapping, hopefully all the way to the living room.

Detroit Music Awards nominated singer songwriter Brandon Calhoon was tapped to develop the song for the show's open and it's been a little surreal for the Beaverton, Mich. native. "When I got the call I was in disbelief. I thought they were pulling my leg."

The blues-rock track titled "Lost To Be Found" has a stomping riff and assertive lyrics paired with the small-town imagery of the show's intro. Set in the hardscrabble streets of economically distressed Battle Creek, Mich. the show stars Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters as two mismatched law enforcement officers.

In high school Calhoon was pulled in two directions being a 6'3" legend with the jocks of Beaverton basketball and at the same time playing guitar in the parking lot with the smokers.

"We're all lost until we're found," said Calhoon on his inspiration for the lyrics coming from one of the characters who is transferred from Detroit to Battle Creek.

After graduating CMU, Calhoon spent ten years working in Detroit and played weekend warrior with his music in just about every local venue as well as all over the state. Northern Michigan fans may remember a gig he had at Tip-up Town -- an ice fishing festival in Houghton Lake at the well-known Limberlost bar.

After getting a taste of celebrity during his stint on the reality show "Rock Star INXS", Calhoon doubled down on his music career.

What's next for Brandon?

While recording the theme to "Battle Creek" he finalized a five song EP titled "Park Avenue" to be released in March as well as a two-disc album of stripped down acoustic stuff in the works. Rusted Rooster Media releases his music. They're based in Midland, Mich. They also employ Calhoon's sound in some of their outdoor TV shows. Follow Brandon Calhoon on his official site.

Watch the premiere of "Battle Creek" on CBS 62 Sunday, March 1 at 10 p.m.

With "Breaking Bad" executive producer Vince Gilligan behind the show there are high expectations and a built-in audience.

When the show becomes a hit and his song is heard in living rooms for years to come -- Calhoon will undoubtedly thank you.
