CBS DETROIT - The Detroit Lions have re-signed defensive end Darryl Tapp, according to NFLPA records, and will pay him a base salary of $870,000 for the 2015 season.

Tapp was one of six Lions defensive linemen slated for free agency after the 2014 season. The others include fellow defensive end George Johnson, whom the Lions have said they will tender, and defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, C.J. Mosley and Andre Fluellen.

Together with others, those players made Detroit's defense one of the most formidable in the NFL, allowing fewer points than every other unit except that of the Seattle Seahawks.

The Lions announced Monday morning they would not use the franchise tag on Suh, who is expected to surpass Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt as the most highly paid defensive player in the game. Detroit has exclusive negotiating rights with Suh for the remainder of the week, but starting Saturday other teams can begin negotiating for Suh's services with agent Jimmy Sexton, and Suh can sign with another team as soon as next Tuesday.
