Road Conditions Clear Up Quickly Tuesday After Snowy, Icy Morning

METRO DETROIT (WWJ) After a wild Tuesday morning marked with virtually every weapon in Mother Nature's arsenal -- including rain, snow and sleet -- a combination of salt and liquid brine was effective at clearing the roads for the afternoon commute.

That's according to Craig Bryson of the Oakland County Road Commission, who said liquid brine tanks on the trucks cause the salt to be more activated as it spread on the roadway.

Bryson says the timing of this brief snowfall actually worked out well, with a full compliment of plow drivers on hand for the day shift.

"If there's snow and ice and a chance of it being slippery out, we'll be out (in the evening), we don't want to take any chances," Bryson said.

There were accidents reported all over area freeways, especially I-94 and I-75, for morning commuters. But a much smoother ride was expected for those leaving their workplaces in the afternoon.
