Hundreds Of Travelers Stranded As Flights Canceled Due To Extreme Weather On East Coast

DETROIT (WWJ) - There have been hundreds of flight cancellations and delays across the country Thursday because of snowy weather on the east coast.

Anna McAllister of East Lansing told WWJ's Sandra McNeill that her trip to New York was supposed to be special.

"Yeah, I'm angry, it's my birthday - we planned a nice vacation - a weekend away," said McAllister. "The flights here are all booked up - a friend of mine is stuck in Lansing because her flight got canceled there and she can't get on a flight until Saturday it would seem."

After more than three hours of waiting at Detroit Metropolitan Airport to get on any flight to New York - McAllister resigned to the elements. "At this point, I'm on my way to the bar."

Mia Davenport of Columbus, Ohio was planning on her first ride on an airplane.

"We were going to go to Rockefeller Center - we were also going to see the Statue of Liberty, of course," she said.

She and her husband waited hours to find they could not get a flight out of Detroit to New York today.

"We're just ready to go back home now," she said, "they're telling us that we will not be able to get a flight until tomorrow and that flight is going to take us to Wisconsin."

After several attempts to find suitable routes the Davenports say they will fly out of Columbus on Friday.
