By Edward Cardenas

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Students at Cody High School's Detroit Institute of Technology heard Thursday about applications for their science, technology, engineering and manufacturing studies from Detroit Grand Prix representatives, and learned they will have a special opportunity on Free Prix Day at the event on Belle Isle.

Michael T. Ritchie, president of Comerica Bank-Michigan and Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, were joined by race car driver brothers Ricky and Jordan Taylor for a panel discussion about their racing experiences, STEM career opportunities related to racing and how technology is such a key part of racing and winning.

During the event, Comerica Bank announced that it will again sponsor Free Prix Day on Friday, May 29, at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

"The Detroit Grand Prix brings together friends and families for a weekend of fun in the Motor City, and Comerica Bank is proud to help ensure the weekend can be enjoyed by all residents through our continued sponsorship of Free Prix Day," said Michael T. Ritchie, president, Comerica Bank-Michigan, in a release. "We look forward to hosting students from the Detroit Institute of Technology at Cody High School that day and giving them a behind-the-scenes look at the racing industry."

Comerica Bank Free Prix Day will feature on-track competition from all four of the racing series competing at the Grand Prix along with activities away from the track including live entertainment and interactive, extreme sports demonstrations.

The panel also invited a group of students from Detroit Institute of Technology at Cody to the island for a private tour on Free Prix Day courtesy of Comerica Bank. This is the third year the Grand Prix has hosted Detroit Public School students at the race.

The Grand Prix is scheduled for May 29-31, 2015, and will include the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans featuring cars of the Verizon IndyCar Series, the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic presented by the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers with the sports cars of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the high-performance vehicles of the Pirelli World Challenge Series in the Cadillac V-Series Challenge presented by the Metro Detroit Cadillac Dealers and the high-flying trucks of the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road presented by Traxxas.
