CBS DETROIT - Free agent kicker Matt Prater, who said months ago he had already talked with his agent about wanting to return to the Detroit Lions, will get just what he wanted.

Prater has signed a three-year, $9 million deal with Detroit, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Mike Klis of the Denver Post first reported the signing, and the Lions - via their team website - quickly confirmed the news.

In 2014, Prater stabilized the kicking situation of the Lions, who released two kickers that season prior to signing him. Prater, who was coming off a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, made 21 of 26 attempts for the Lions. Before the Lions picked up Prater, he had been released by the Denver Broncos, for whom he had a Pro Bowl season in 2013.
