2 Cling To Life After Smashing Into Semi-Truck On Mound Road

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Authorities say two people are struggling to survive after they were both critically injured in an accident in Sterling Heights.

Police say the accident happened around 2 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Mound Road and 14 Mile Road.

According to police, a semi-truck was initially stopped at a red light on southbound Mound Road. As the light turned green and the semi-truck began to move, it was rear ended by another vehicle.

Two people in that vehicle, a 30-year-old Detroit man and a 26-year-old Warren woman, received life-threatening injuries in the crash and were both taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Their current conditions are unknown.

The crash remains under investigation. Police say they're not yet sure if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The intersection was closed for several hours as police investigated, but has since reopened.

Anyone who might have witnessed the crash is urged to contact police at 586-446-2920.
