I-75, I-94 Interchange Gets Temporary Fix For Deteriorating Concrete On Bridge

DETROIT (WWJ) - Temporary bridge supports are being installed at a Detroit freeway interchange after deteriorating concrete was found.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will start work Wednesday around the northbound and southbound lanes of I-75 at the I-94 interchange. Lane closures are planned for about a week.

"With the heavier traffic headed southbound in the morning, we're going to be working on the northbound side. After 9 a.m., a crane will come in and crews will put concrete barriers blocking the left lane of northbound I-75," MDOT Spokesperson Diane Cross told WWJ's Ron Dewey. "And then for the afternoon, we'll take care of the southbound side of I-75."

Cross said workers found deteriorating concrete on the columns that carry the eastbound I-94 ramp over I-75  near downtown Detroit. The temporary supports are expected to stabilize the bridge, keeping it safe until further evaluation is done.

Following installation of the temporary bridge supports, the left shoulders of northbound and southbound I-75 will remain closed.
