CBS DETROIT - Veteran guard Justin Blalock visited with the Detroit Lions on Thursday, according to the team website.

Blalock has started 125 games in his eight-year career, never playing fewer than 14 games in a season. Guard is a need for the Lions, who have not stated whether they will re-sign veteran Rob Sims, a free agent who has spent the past five seasons in Detroit.

The Lions already announced they would not bring back longtime center Dominic Raiola. The move was not surprising considering the team drafted a center, Travis Swanson, in the third round in 2014. Swanson is expected to take over as the starter at that spot in 2015.

The guard spot is still up in the air. Like Sims, however, Blalock is 31 years old, so neither player is likely to be a long-term solution.

Nevertheless, any upgrade would be helpful for an offensive line that struggled to establish the run last season. Detroit ranked 28th in the league in rushing yards per game.
