Exercise And Outdoor Tech Popular Items This Spring (Video)

By Edward Cardenas

ROCHESTER HILLS (CBS Detroit) - The change in seasons and warmer weather is leading to increased interest in exercise, outdoor entertainment and activity technologies.

David Gross, general manager of the new Verizon Wireless store in Rochester Hills, is finding that customers are interested in fitness items from exercise trackers such as Fitbit to Zepp monitoring systems to help improve the power and accuracy of golfers, baseball players and tennis players.

"One of the trends right now is our fitness zone," said Gross, of the section of his store dedicated to athletic equipment. "As we have spring come back in to full force with the snow melting, we've seen a lot of people come in for the Fitbits."

Fitbits, along with tracking bands from Adidas, Garmin and Jawbone, are among the most popular items at the new Rochester Hills store.

Gross shared that other popular tech products include:

  • Wireless headphones and speakers for boat outings and backyard gatherings,
  • The handheld, waterproof HTC RE camera which takes still photos and videos,
  • Portable power packs for tablets and smart phones.

Verizon will hold a grand opening celebration Saturday of the new store on Rochester Road, which is one of the nine redesigned Verizon Smart Stores in the Michigan region.

The store offers training classes in the newest technology and brings products such as smart phones, tablets, wearable tech and accessories onto the floor and into lifestyle zones which feature home automation, health products, headphones and speakers.
