Parolee Charged With Attempted Murder In Stabbing Of Girlfriend, 2 Kids

DETROIT (WWJ) - A recently paroled 33-year-old Detroit man accused of stabbing his girlfriend and two of her kids, and assaulting another, has been charged with attempted murder.

Jeremiah Edwards was arraigned Thursday in 36th District Court on three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of felonious assault, one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, domestic violence and home invasion. He was ordered jailed ahead of a March 20 probable cause hearing.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Edwards allegedly attacked the family after he was asked to leave their home in the 12100 block of Monica, near Fullerton Avenue and I-96.

Edwards allegedly hit his 34-year-old girlfriend in the eye when she asked him to leave around 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, according to Worthy. He briefly left the house but forced his way back in and stabbed a 12-year-old girl in the forehead and a 16-year-old male victim in the shoulder, authorities said.

Edwards then allegedly ran up to his girlfriend and stabbed her in the hand, Worthy said, before going back to the 16-year-old and stabbing him in the stomach.

Worthy said Edwards apparently then turned his attention to an 11-year-old girl, repeatedly kicking her in the stomach. Although severely injured, the 16-year-old grabbed a shovel and hit Edwards with it several times until the man fled from the house on foot, authorities said.

Police were called to the scene and located Edwards a short time later in a nearby alley near in the 14000 block of Santa Rosa.

All four victims were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
