12-Year-Old Detroit Boy Stabbed By Robbers While Defending Mom

DETROIT (WWJ) - Officials say a brave 12-year-old boy is recovering after being stabbed while trying to protect his mother during a robbery attempt on Detroit's east side.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday outside of a home on Radner Street near Chandler Park Drive, in a neighborhood south of Moross Road and I-94.

According to police, the boy was getting out a vehicle with his 44-year-old mother, a 17-year-old girl and a 55-year-old woman, when the group was approached by three men wearing masks.

The men announced a robbery, but the group told them they had no money, police said. The boy was standing in front of his mother, trying to protect her from the assailants, when one of the men lunged forward and stabbed him in the arm with a knife, according to police. The suspects then fled the scene.

The boy's current condition is unknown, but police say he's expected to fully recover. No one else was injured.

Police are now searching for the suspects, but have not yet released any physical descriptions.
