Doctor Drives Self To Hospital After Being Stabbed At Grosse Pointe Woods Home
GROSSE POINTE WOODS (WWJ) - An investigation is underway after a local ER doctor was stabbed at his home in Grosse Pointe Woods.
Authorities say the man drove himself to St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren Friday morning after suffering a stab wound at his home on Fairholme Road, in a neighborhood south of Mack Avenue and Vernier Road.
The man walked into the hospital under his own power, although it's unclear how badly he was injured. As he was admitted for surgery, hospital security guards notified police of the situation.
Other circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain unclear. Police confirmed the incident, but declined to discuss details.
Neighbors in the area, like Janet Webber, started coming from their homes when they realized a police investigation was unfolding on their street.
"Oh my gosh. Oh my goodness. We think that this is such a safe neighborhood because nobody can find us, with all these little streets that wind around and all. But it doesn't matter [where you live] anymore. It surely does not," Webber told WWJ's Mike Campbell.
Shirley Gillette, who lives across the street from the doctor, said she's having a hard time wrapping her head around the situation.
"It's just scary to think about something like that," she said. "Usually things are kind of quiet, you know, there really isn't much that we have going on around here. It's just very quiet."
Grosse Pointe Woods police are handling the investigation, which is ongoing.
