Report: Doctor Wakes To Group Stabbing Him With Syringes, Knives

GROSSE POINTE WOODS (WWJ) - More details are starting to emerge in the case of a local ER doctor who was allegedly stabbed by multiple assailants at his Grosse Pointe Woods home.

The 43-year-old doctor, identified in reports as James Millican, allegedly told police that he woke up to find four people assaulting him with syringes and knives, according to the Detroit News.

Millican was able to escape his attackers and drove from his home on Fairholme Road, in a neighborhood south of Mack Avenue and Vernier Road, to St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren, where he works. As Millican was admitted for surgery, hospital security guards notified police of the situation.

Millican is said to be recovering in fair condition. It's unclear how badly he was injured.

Grosse Pointe Woods police handling the investigation said other circumstances surrounding the incident are vague. Physical descriptions of the suspects have not yet been released.

The incident has left many residents in the usually quiet neighborhood, like Janet Webber, on edge.

"We think that this is such a safe neighborhood because nobody can find us, with all these little streets that wind around and all. But it doesn't matter [where you live] anymore. It surely does not," Webber told WWJ's Mike Campbell.

Shirley Gillette, who lives across the street from the doctor, said she's having a hard time wrapping her head around the situation.

"It's just scary to think about something like that," she said. "Usually things are kind of quiet, you know, there really isn't much that  we have going on around here. It's just very quiet."

An investigation is ongoing.
