Homeowner, Robbers Fire Shots Leaving 1 Person Wounded During Suspected Home Invasion

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are trying to sort out details of a home invasion in which a woman exchanged gunshots with two suspected burglars.

Investigators say two suspects were breaking into a home on University Place near Chandler Park and Cadieux just before four o'clock Monday morning when the 29-year old woman in the home with her brother fired shots.

The burglars fired shots back.

Eric lives in the neighborhood and spoke with WWJ's Charlie Langton.

"Man, you gotta protect yourself now-a-days, you all get a CCW - get one, cuz these guys out here they are not playing. Coming in your house - and it's right for you to protect yourself - it's hard to protect yourself out here, it's either going to be you or them."

Demetrius, a neighbor, says it started with a small commotion, followed by about four or five gun shots and he heard a car pulling off - and shortly after - police arrived.

One person was wounded and taken to the hospital, but police aren't sure if that was the person living at the home or is one of the suspects.

An investigation is ongoing.
