Man Suffers Medical Condition, Dies After Detroit Police Traffic Stop

DETROIT (AP) - A 24-year-old motorist has died after police said he suffered a medical condition during a traffic stop on Detroit's southwest side.

Police spokeswoman June West says Wednesday that the officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man Monday night and called paramedics, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Rev. Kevin Clark tells WXYZ-TV and The Detroit News that his son, Anthony Clark, had asthma.

Kevin Clark said a lieutenant read him a police report that stated his son was handcuffed and told officers he couldn't breathe. They gave Anthony Clark his inhaler, but it apparently wasn't working.

West said in a statement that police will "be reaching out to the family in the next few days to provide them with updated information as it becomes available."
