Redford Police Investigate Death Of Baby Hidden In Woman's Cubicle At Local Business

REDFORD (WWJ) - Police are investigating the death of a newborn child, whose body was found in a bag in the mother's desk at a business in Redford.

Police and rescue units Tuesday morning responded to CEVA Logistics on Glendale, near Telegraph and I-96, and discovered that the child had been delivered in a bathroom at the business. The mother and newborn child were taken to a local hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

Police haven't released the name of woman who gave birth, and it's unclear if she will face charges. Reports say the woman is a 26-year-old from Wyandotte who apparently hid her pregnancy -- at least from her co-workers.

According to reports, police were called to the business after employees apparently found a large amount of blood in the bathroom. Blood was also allegedly found on the mother, who had returned to work at her cubicle with her dead baby in a bag in her desk, according to reports.

Autopsy results are pending. It's not clear if the baby was born alive or was stillborn.

Investigators declined to discuss specific details and employees at the business refused comment.

This comes about a week after the discovery of two children inside a freezer at a Detroit apartment. The two were allegedly killed by their mother, who is accused of killing one of the children two years ago, the other about a year later, and storing their bodies in the apartment where she lived with her two other children.
