Dense Fog Advisory In Effect: 'The Worst We've Ever Seen'

DETROIT (WWJ) - Fog covering southeast Michigan Friday morning is so dense, some people are saying it's the worst they've ever seen.

The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory, in effect until 9 a.m. for the entire region.

Visibility in some sports is just a few feet while in other places, it's less than a quarter-mile. Drivers are advised to slow down, leave plenty of distance between vehicles and use extreme caution.

The fog is even causing some issues at Detroit Metro Airport. Flight Stats show departures are running on schedule so far this morning, but there are a few delays with arrivals. Flights to Metro from Kalamazoo, Escanaba and Fort Wayne are running about 45 minutes to an hour behind schedule.

Many people starting their day had trouble navigating the roads. One woman said it was the worst fog she had ever driven in -- period.

"I can barely see anything in front of my said," said Robert Napier, of Detroit. "It just looks depressing. It looks like a scary movie."

"Yeah, it's creepy, like in the graveyard or somewhere," agreed Hubie Marion, of Detroit. "It's terrible out here. All these deer out here, you don't know what you might hit out here. You can't even see."

Marty Stein, of Franklin, said the fog had him a little on edge.

"You just can't see," he said. "You can't see Telegraph Road, the lines. It is a thick, thick fog."

But for others, like Lindsay Moore of Southfield, driving in the fog "was an adventure."

"It kind of felt like I was in space. Cars coming the other way were just appearing out of no where. It was actually a lot of fun," she said.

The fog is expected to clear up by the end of the morning.
