MSU Student Spends $400 On Final Four Tickets On Craigslist, Never Receives Them

EAST LANSING (WWJ) -- Final Four weekend started on a sour note for one Michigan State University student who was trying to buy Spartans basketball tickets through Craigslist.

Will Nahikian, a second year law student at Michigan State University, hasn't missed a Spartans basketball game in five years. He searched Craigslist for a pair of tickets to Saturday's Final Four matchup with the Duke Blue Devils in Indianapolis and found a seller who claimed to be stationed at a military base in California.

After transferring $400, Nahikian never received the tickets. Police in California and East Lansing told him that little could be done.

"I'm a little skeptical, but I asked him for an ID, I ask him where he's living, what's his deal, why he isn't going to the game," Nahikian said. "He tells me he's a Michigan State fan...so I just trust him."

Nahikian said that it would cost more than the $400 he lost to seek legal help. If you plan to go the route of buying tickets through Craigslist -- for any event -- he said to be cautious.

"I would look into it, make them give you a Facebook, make them send you an ID, even though they can fake IDs apparently -- I'd try to get as much online information about a person as you could," Nahikian said.

Luckily, Nahikian's parents were looking out for him -- they chipped in cash for another pair of tickets. This time a thorough background check was done of the seller.

"It makes you pretty angry that there are people out there who are going to do that," Nahikian said.
