A Nod To Prohibition As National Beer Day Recognized Around Country

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Nothing covert about imbibing on this day --- today is about the celebration of beer in all its forms.

It's National Beer Day -- a day which marks the end of prohibition in 1933; meaning people were able to buy, sell, and drink beer again.

Tim Selewski, brew master at Royal Oak Brewery says beer has come a long way since days of prohibition.

"Over the years it's become a day, especially since the craft beer movement in the country took over in the last 15-20 years or so - it's become a really great day to just to celebrate and salute the diversity of beer that has come into being in our country again," says Selewski.

"IPA or India Pale Ale is one of the most bitter styles of beer that exits and thanks to the craft beer movement in this country it has kind of taken over and especially at a place like our pub - our India Pale Ale sells better than any beer we have on our taps," he tells WWJ's Zahra Huber.

Selewski says on this day, people make a point to come in to drink beer and toast with their friends.
