Hold On To Your Hats! Winds Could Reach 60 MPH In Metro Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Friday is going to be a windy one in metro Detroit but once that passes, the forecast is looking gorgeous for the weekend.

That National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for all of Southeast Michigan — in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday — with gusts expect to reach between 40 and 50 miles per hour, and possibly higher. Winds that strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, so use extra caution.

Falling branches and sporadic power outages have been reported across the area.

DTE Energy said about 9,000 homes and and businesses were without power as of 12 p.m., scattered across the metro Detroit area. [Check the DTE outage map, HERE].

"Throughout the early morning hours, temperatures are going to stay fairly mild in the upper 50s and lower 60s. But once the sun rises, those temperatures will be dropping a little more into the lower 50s," said CBS 62 Meteorologist Karen Carter. "Then, throughout the afternoon, temperatures are going to warm up back into the upper 50s. But because of the winds, it may not feel quite as warm out there as the temperatures state."

Carter said there is a slight chance of rain Friday but once the clouds clear up, things are going to be beautiful.

"The good news is we'll have plenty of sunshine this weekend," she said. "Temperatures are going to stay in the upper 50s on Saturday and we'll see temperatures in the 60s into next week, and it will be dry."

Here's the local forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Friday: Chance of a morning shower. Decreasing cloudiness and windy with a clearing overnight. High 57F. Low 37F.

Saturday: Mostly sunny skies. High near 60F. Low 38F.

Sunday: Generally sunny despite a few afternoon clouds. High 66F. Low 51F.

Monday: Spotty morning showers; otherwise, breezy with clouds giving way to some sun. High 68F. Low 42F.

Tuesday: Sunny. High 66F. Low 47F.
