Woman, Kids Found Dead After Apparent Domestic Dispute In Eastpointe

EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - Eastpointe police are investigating the deaths of a mother and her two children that might have been the result of a domestic dispute.

The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. Monday at a home on Cushing Avenue, in a neighborhood along Gratiot Avenue between 8 and 9 Mile roads.

Police arrived on the scene and found three victims -- a 37-year-old woman, her 9-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter -- dead inside the home. Other circumstances weren't immediately clear, although police say they believe the deaths stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Lt. Dave Ernatt confirmed that police have a suspect in custody, reportedly the woman's husband and children's father.

John, who lives nearby, said nothing seemed out of the ordinary about the family.

"Normal stuff, you know, them going to work, their kids going to the babysitter, coming home from the babysitter. That's it," he said.

Another neighbor, Scott, was "shocked" to hear the news.

"I think I saw him out there on Saturday when it was a nice day out. He was always nice to his kids. He was friendly, helpful," said Scott. "It's unbelievable, it's really, really, really, really -- you would never expect this dude to do something like this."

Names and causes of death have not yet been released.

Michigan State Police are involved in the investigation, which is ongoing.
