Detroit Man Charged In Connection With Trenton Man's Death

TRENTON (WWJ) - A person of interest is in custody and a possible motive might be starting to emerge in the murder of a 64-year-old Downriver man.

Aaron Marshall, 35, was arraigned Tuesday on a felony charge of lying to police in the homicide investigation of George Hite, according to The News Herald.

Hite was found dead March 11 inside his home at the Westwood Condominiums that he shared with his 94-year-old mother -- who was bedridden and present when the murder took place.

Investigators say Hite was killed -- strangled with a belt -- days before his body was discovered during a welfare check. There were no signs of forced entry to the home, leading investigators to believe Hite knew his killer.

Authorities are now apparently working a theory that Hite and Marshall met each other at the Greektown Casino, where the two allegedly frequented. While it's not yet clear how long the two men might have known each other, investigators think that Hite was followed back to his home after leaving the casino.

According to reports, Marshall allegedly lied in police interviews when he denied being in the Downriver area around the time Hite was killed. However, cell phone records reportedly put him near the scene of the crime and also apparently show that Marshall had step-by-step directions to Hite's condominium, according to reports.

Marshall is set to return to court on April 21 for a probable cause hearing.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 734-676-3737 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
