Investigation Into Alleged Falsified Overtime In Detroit Police Department

DETROIT (WWJ) - There's an internal investigation into allegations that Detroit police officers falsely logged overtime during the Bob Bashara trial that they didn't work.

The investigation began after a supervisor in the homicide section reported that officers were writing phony subpoenas - charging the city for overtime for court appearances that never happened - particularly during the Bashara trial.

The investigation could be widening reports WWJ's Legal Analyst Charlie Langton. Chief James Craig says he will focus on other units of the department.

Reports show the budget for overtime in the department is $20 million. Since the investigation began court-time for homicide investigators has dropped 52 percent.
