State Officials Investigate Man's Death At Lansing Police Lockup

LANSING (AP) - Authorities say a 39-year-old Delta Township man being held at a Lansing police lockup has died.

The Lansing Police Department says detention officers discovered the inmate not breathing Monday night and immediately began performing CPR. The inmate was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say it's not yet known what caused the death of the unidentified inmate. He was being held on a misdemeanor traffic charge.

The Ingham County medical examiner will determine the cause of death once autopsy and toxicology exams are done.

The Michigan State Police will conduct an investigation. Once that's completed, state police will turn the case over to the prosecutor's office for review.
