Website Answers Users 'How Old Do I Look' Question

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Television cameras are said to add 10 pounds to subjects, but do they add years?

Microsoft launched a webpage http://how-old.net to test its face detection application built with the company's Azure cloud computing platform.

The page allows users to upload a picture and have the app predict the age and gender of any faces recognized in that picture.

According to a blog post, the Microsoft developers were hoping at least 50 people would use the site when it launched Wednesday. In just a few hours, more than 35,000 people use the app.

"We wanted to create an experience that was intelligent and fun could capture the attention of people globally," Microsoft engineers Corom Thompson and Santosh Balasubramanian wrote in a blog post.
