Zagat Names Detroit One Of America's 'Hottest Food Towns'

By Christy Strawser

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) It's one of the worst-kept secrets around: Detroit has a food scene, and it's cool, growing with pop-ups and celebrity chef investments.

And now everybody knows.

Calling it an incubator of chef talent, Zagat pronounced Detroit the third hottest food city in the country. The magazine references Guns and Butter and Motor City Wine as purveyors of the hottest food around.

Also name checked are Slow's Bar BQ, Mercury Burger Bar, Sugar House, Two James Spirits, Gold Cash Gold, Selden Standard, Green Dot Stables, and Johnny Noodle King.

Zagat proclaims, "Detroit's burgeoning culinary scene, fueled by a ballsy, DIY attitude, is ready to hold its own in the national arena."

Who took first place? Birmingham, Ala., which is considered "having a moment thanks to the abundant Southern farmland and high-profile chefs."

Oakland/Berkeley, California, is ranked at No. 2 in the publication that earns its stripes by ranking restaurant destinations around the world for their food, decor, service and cost.
