Ambassador Bridge Toll Goes Up On Canadian Side

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The price has increased to travel the bridge that connects Detroit with Windsor, Ontario, coming from the Canadian side.

The toll from Canada has increased from $5 to $6.25 for passenger vehicles. The U.S. rate remains at $5.

Come June 1, commercial trucks will pay $6.25.

The changes come due to the Canadian exchange rate.

You can save a little bit of money by taking the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, which charges $4.50 on the Canadian side and $4.75 in Detroit.

Bridge owners seek to build a twin span over the Detroit River. That project has been held up in litigation over permits.

The state of Michigan also plans to build its own New International Trade Crossing bridge over the river. Officials have said they hope to open the bridge in 2020.
