Boil Water Advisory Issued In River Rouge

RIVER ROUGE (WWJ) -- The entire city of River Rouge is under a boil water alert after a wain main break on Tuesday.

The 9,000 residents of the city are advised to bring water to a complete boil before drinking it, cooking with it, using it to brush teeth or wash dishes.

Water System Operator Mark Gaworecki said that the alert comes after a 16-inch water main burst Tuesday morning at Jefferson Ave. and Pleasant St., and that the alert is being issued as a precaution.

"What we believe is that the city has what they call pressure reducing valves and we believe one of them may have malfunctioned, causing the break," Gaworecki said.

The boil water alert is scheduled to last until Saturday. Gaworecki said that some people have low or no water pressure due to the break.

"Once it's repaired and back up to pressure, we have to take water samples just to make sure that they're clean," Gaworecki said.
