Justin Verlander Talks To 'Haters,' Promises Not To Enjoy His Life

By Christy Strawser

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) First, there was the Upton curse, and all the people screaming that Tigers ace Justin Verlander wasn't exactly having the best season of his career thanks, they argued, to too much time spent with his swimsuit supermodel girlfriend.

A year later, Verlander hasn't played a regular season game yet in 2014 thanks to a triceps injury.

The Twitter and Instagram trolls are taking him to task for periodically posting photos of fun nights out with Kate Upton. Let's not even mention the time he went to Somerset to get Starbucks on game day.

Aquariums and fancy restaurants in Chicago are apparently also off limits to recovering athletes, judging by the number of angry comments left on his pictures yesterday from people demanding he try harder to get back to work.

Yes, he has noticed how some fans feel about that. Shouldn't he be suffering more? Shouldn't he be scowling, shaking his fists at doctors until they devise a solution?

A somber faced Verlander posted a message on Instagram to all his "haters," telling them he promises not to get out of bed or enjoy life so they "think he's trying."

In the meantime, another MRI of Verlander's arm is expected today where it's anticipated fans will get a clearer picture of when he'll return to the mound.
