Two Epic Burritos Devoured In Less Than Four Minutes In Cinco De Mayo Event (Video)

By Edward Cardenas

DEARBORN HEIGHTS (CBS Detroit) - Competitive eaters descended on Del Taco locations across Metro Detroit Tuesday in an attempt to eat two, one-pound burritos in 15 minutes or less.

Reigning champion Anthony Antal returned to the Dearborn Heights location to defend his title. In just under four minutes he cleared his plate of the two chicken chipolte ranch burritos - with added an topping of hot sauce.

"You gotta like what you are eating," said Antal, of Dearborn Heights, who was planning to eat lunch later in the day. "If it was something I didn't like I would lose for sure. I like burritos, and I like what's in them."

His prize for being the first person to finish the Epic Burritos - one free Del Taco Epic Burrito per week for a year.

The Dearborn Heights location was the first in Michigan to hold the competition on Cinco de Mayo, -which celebrates the Mexican victory over France at the Battle of Puebla, May 5, 1862 - last year.

This year the competition was expanded to all six metro Detroit locations as way to interact with customers. The speed at which contestants devoured the burritos surprised Del Taco managing partner Danielle Chereton.

"Not even one in three minutes," she responded when asked if she could have competed with the winner.

The second finishers will receive a catering package for up to 20 people from Del Taco, while all third place finishers will receive one free meal of their choice.
